WOKE AF Review [Did Bucked Up Get It Right?]

WOKE AF is one of my favorite pre workout supplements that I’ve used. Over my years of training I’ve probably tried more than 25 pre workouts, so that’s saying something. Bucked Up has established itself as a clear leader in the supplement industry, so it’s no surprise that WOKE AF stands out among the hundreds of pre workouts on the market today.

What is WOKE AF?

WOKE AF is a high-stimulant pre workout that includes 3 stimulants and proven nootropic ingredients. This pre workout contains over 300 mg of caffeine per serving, so it’s not for people with limited caffeine tolerance.

WOKE AF™ is not for beginners, rookies, or people who curl in the squat rack. This stim heavy dose has been formulated for those with only the strongest of tolerances.

3 different stimulants combined with clinically proven cognition enhancers, and a potent delivery mechanism will help you stay WOKE through the most intense workouts, longest work shifts, graveyards, study sessions, (or simply crushing your enemies, seeing them driven before you, and hearing the lamentation of their people).*

Woke AF Pre Workout

Taste

Rating: 5 out of 5.

From a taste perspective, WOKE AF is a winner. I’ve tried most of the flavors and they’ve all been great.

Quality

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Bucked Up is a reputable brand in the supplement industry, and WOKE AF lives up to the brand’s standards.

Price

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

WOKE AF is in line with most of its competitors from a pricing standpoint. If price is a major factor for you, there are cheaper pre workouts available. However, at around $1.50 per serving, WOKE AF is delivers a high-value pre workout.

My Experience with WOKE AF

I chose WOKE AF as the first pre workout review on Pre Workout Guide because it’s my favorite pre workout. I’ve personally used Bucked Up’s WOKE AF for a number of different training styles: CrossFit, bodybuilding, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, running, and mountain biking. It’s been great for all of them.

I am a bit of a stimulant junky, so I enjoy the high stimulant formula that WOKE uses. It goes beyond just the boost from caffeine, by adding ingredients like Huperzine and theobromine. And the high-caffeine blend was exactly what I was looking for.

I bought my first tub of WOKE AF at a Vitamin Shoppe near where I live. I’m always curious why the employees recommend the supplements that they do, so I was skeptical. But this one was a win. The salesperson sold me WOKE AF as a nootropic pre workout.

It could have been a strong placebo effect, but my first workout on WOKE AF went really well. I felt mentally sharp, and physically energized. The energy is pleasant and sustained, unlike some pre workouts that seem to peak and crash really quickly.

WOKE AF Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Flavors are Great: I’m really not picky when it comes to pre-workout flavor, because I can get it down whether it’s good or not. However WOKE AF flavors are delicious.
  • L-Citrulline Malate Dosage: The 6 grams of Citrulline malate in WOKE AF aligns with the 5-8 gram recommended by studies.
  • B-Vitamins: We love B vitamins in pre-workouts because of the benefits for energy and metabolic function.
  • Powder Mixes Easily: Compared to other pre workouts we’ve tested, WOKE AF mixes easily so you won’t have powder left at the bottom of your drink.

Cons

  • Deer Antler Velvet: This ingredient is pretty worthless. It’s not backed by science and provides very little tangible benefit.
  • Synephrine HCl: Synephrine has been linked with a number of side effects you may want to look out for.

WOKE AF Ingredients

Vitamin B12 (100 mcg)

Vitamin B12 (and B vitamins in general) provide improved energy levels. Additionally, B vitamins can help support metabolic function to improve breakdown of carbohydrates, fat and protein as fuel.

Citrulline Malate (6 grams)

Citrulline is a dietary amino acid that helps promote proper circulatory function. Citrulline also plays a role in the production of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide helps increase blood flow to your working muscles, which can help reduce time to fatigue.

Citrulline malate is a combination of L-citrulline with malic acid, which helps increase bioavailability and absorption rates.

Beta-Alanine (3.2 grams)

Beta-Alanine is an amino acid commonly included in pre workouts for its vasodilation effect. The improved blood flow helps your body deliver oxygen to muscles more efficiently, leading to better endurance.

Reduced fatigue means more sets and reps at the gym, which should help improve strength and fitness gains.

Beta Alanine is also the ingredient in pre workout associated with the tingling and itchiness that many people experience after taking pre workout. If you’ve experienced this effect and want to avoid it, there are pre-workouts without beta alanine that won’t make you itchy.

Caffeine Anhydrous (333 mg)

Caffeine does most of the “heavy lifting” for pre workout supplements. The primary effect of pre workout, especially with high-stimulant formulas like WOKE AF, is from caffeine. Caffeine helps increase energy levels by stimulating your central nervous system, and blocking adenosine receptors.

Caffeine can reduce your rate of perceived exertion, so you can complete the same workload with less perceived effort. Additionally, since caffeine increases your core temperature, it can help you burn more energy and increase fat burning.

In addition to caffeine’s physical benefits, it can also help improve mental focus and motivation.

AlphaSize Alpha GPC (200 mg)

AlphaSize Alpha GPC is a highly bioavailable form of choline, which is a research validated, performance benefiting ingredient. Choline helps to increase the body’s production of acetylcholine, a primary neurotransmitter.

Acetylcholine is involved in cognitive functions including learning, memory, concentration, recall and focus. In physical efforts, acetylcholine can help increase power, force production, strength and agility.

AlphaSize is beneficial for mental and physical performance, gaming, caffeine replacement, and healthy aging.

Taurine (100 mg)

Taurine has many benefits for pre-workout users.

Benefits of Taurine:

  • Increases Power
  • Enhances Mind-Muscle Connection and Muscle Contraction
  • Improves Stamina and Endurance
  • Supports Hydration
  • Speedier Recovery

Himalayan Rock Salt (100 mg)

Himalayan Rock Salt is showing up in more and more pre workout supplements, and for good reason. Consuming salt prior to working out can help promote proper hydration, better muscle pumps, and improved endurance. Research shows that salt before working out can increase blood volume, improve blood flow, and increase endurance.

Deer Antler Velvet Extract (50 mg)

Bucked Up originally launched with Deer Antler Velvet Extract as its only product. The ingredient exploded in popularity after NFL player Ray Lewis alleged using the substance to help heal an injury.

Ray Lewis Deer Antler Spray

The primary driver of deer antler velvet extract’s effectiveness comes from IGF-1, a form of growth hormone that is banned in many professional sports leagues. In addition to promoting muscle growth and recovery, IGF-1 is also commonly used by anti-aging advocates, despite these applications being off-label usage.

Synephrine HCl (40 mg)

Synephrine HCl is an alkaloid often included in fat burning and pre workout supplements. It is commonly listed as “bitter orange extract”, as it occurs naturally in oranges and other citrus fruits. Synephrine has similar effects as the common stimulant and decongestant ephedrine. When taken before working out, synephrine can increase fat oxidation. The recommended dosage is between 30 mg and 50 mg, so Synephrine is properly dosed in WOKE AF.

AstraGin (25 mg)

AstraGin is a combination of astragalus root extract and ginseng root extract. This is a patented, 100% natural compound that helps increase absorption of other vital nutrients and promotes gut health. Combining the other ingredients in WOKE AF with AstraGin helps improve the absorption and effectiveness of the compounds.

ActaGin (25 mg)

ActaGin is a compound derived from Panax notoginseng and Rosa roxburhii plants. ActaGin can help boost performance through three primary mechanisms. First, it can help increase muscle glycogen levels so you’ll have more fuel to power through intense workouts. Second, it can increase citrate synthase enzyme activity, which initiates the Krebs cycle. The Krebs cycle plays a role in generating aerobic energy in the body.

ActaGin is currently patent-pending. In a 2015 study, ActaGin was found to increase glycogen recover by 370 percent, increase high-intensity endurance performance by up to 20 percent, and decreased oxidative inflammation by up to 69 percent after high-intensity exercise.
